Community Connections

To function effectively and fulfill its purpose, SCA has forged relationships with numerous organizations. Those listed below have been consistently and especially helpful for many years.

Organizations Supporting SCA

Lake Accotink Park generously donates the use of the its conference room for SCA’s bi-monthly Executive Committee meetings, repetitively keeping staff there after hours to accommodate us. The park also provides SCA with trained and certified childcare services free of charge in order to allow members with children to attend SCA’s membership and special interest meetings without distraction.

Crestwood Elementary School generously donates the use of a room large enough to accommodate hundreds of people for SCA’s general membership and special interest meetings. In addition, one of the school’s programs, Parent Liaison and Community Outreach Program, provides the SCA an opportunity to connect with Springfield parents to encourage their children’s participation in SCA’s elementary-level civic responsibility education programs.

Lynbrook Elementary School is equally generous in offering SCA its large meeting space for our meetings when Crestwood Elementary School is unavailable. Lynbrook established a Parent Liaison and Community Outreach Program in 2009 which provides another opportunity for SCA to connect with Springfield Lynbrook school parents.

The Springfield Chamber of Commerce is SCA’s central link to Springfield’s business community and joins SCA in mutual support opportunities such as sponsorship of the annual Business Fair (BizFair) and Springfield Days festival events.

Richard Byrd Library provides SCA a source of outreach to Springfield residents by making the SCA newsletter available to library patrons. The library also generously provides SCA an alternate site, when needed, for Executive Committee meetings.

SCA Representation to Other Organizations. To stay abreast of and advocate for members on community issues, SCA appoints liaisons who represent SCA members’ interests and concerns at the following organizations’ meetings and functions.

Fairfax County Federation of Citizens Associations
